Bob Ong: The best-selling Pinoy blogger that could have been

If you've ever read any of Bob Ong's books (come on, of course you have), I'm sure you're eagerly awaiting him to release his next paperback like the rest of us. I like reading his books too, just like you, but personally I think he should stop releasing new stuff. Bob Ong should stop writing books.

Now before you label me a loose nut because I want Bob Ong to stop releasing new books, hear me out. I think Bob Ong should stop writing new books but I don't mean for him to constrain his brilliant mind.

What I think he should do, instead of releasing book after book, is just create a new personal blog and update it with new material everyday. Think of it as BobongPinoy.com 2.0. He should just become a blogger. Don't you think the time has come?

I think the main reason why he had to pull down the original BobongPinoy.com is because so many people were coming to the site and he had to pay for all the bandwidth it was consuming. Bob Ong didn't earn a cent from that web site in any way, so it's only logical that he pull it down if it's costing a bum like him a significant amount of money without giving anything back.

If you recall, the original BobongPinoy.com was up during the Erap administration. And at that time, bloggers (or even the terms "blog" and "blogging") were virtually non-existent.

Also, there was no easy way to let online advertisers sign up to advertise on your site back then. And Google's prized AdSense service was only introduced quite recently. It was just a matter of time until Bob Ong tried to find a way to reach more people with his writings and monetize it at the same time. Hence, the books.

Now, he can kill two birds with one stone. He could just start a blog and keep writing in it every day, monetizing it with online advertising networks like Google's AdSense, AdBrite, and Widgetbucks.

Well, what do you think? Should Bob Ong stop writing books and resume his online activities from where he left off, or is everything really better off the way it is?
